| Me in middle school |
In middle school, I believe it was seventh grade, my teacher assigned us to groups with other students in the class. I can't remember the name of the class at the moment but she had us create our business. We were given a business manual that we had to fill in and each student in the group was assigned a position within the business.
I came up with the idea of creating a fashion brand, a clothing line, therefore I was assigned the CEO position so I had to come up with our mission statement and basically create the basis for our brand. After about a month we needed to not only complete this business plan but also give a presentation in front of the entire middle school and professors.
In the end, my group and I received an A and one of the teacher's commentaries on our presentation was that I could sell snow to Eskimos, which made me feel really good,
I enrolled in ENT3003 because although becoming a business owner may sound cool, I know its not as easy as a seventh grade project made it seem, even though that wasn't actually that easy either. I want to get to know what it truly takes to become an entrepreneur and get through the obstacles along the way.
I'm hoping this course will help me build the confidence I need to be an entrepreneur and understand where other entrepreneurs come from.

ReplyDeleteThat's a really interesting assignment and a good way of making it simple to teach middle schoolers. Obviously its not that simple and I also want to know what it truly takes to become an entrepreneur. You were given a good start though with this assignment especially since you worked on it for a month! You must have really learned a lot.

I also got an early insight to entrepreneurship but through my father. I had to work on projects with him for sometimes a month so we had similar experiences in this aspect.
Carolina,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had quite the project on your hands in your 7th grade class! It sounds like you were required to be very detailed and I think that the assignment may have very well been a good way to give you an idea of how much work goes into a business very early on. I had a similar experience in 6th grade where my math teacher assigned us a budget to take a “vacation” on. This wasn’t fun at all, apparently Cancun is expensive!
I found it interesting that you choose to start your own brand for your project! In fact, that’s exactly what I did! I produce curly-girl themed apparel. My brand’s name is CoiledCrown! You can read about my entrepreneurship story here:
